Programs For Parents

POSITIVE PARENTING PROGRAMS: “Positive Parenting” (geared for parents of pre-school and elementary students) will begin on Tuesday, January 25. The course runs for 5 weeks, from 7 to 8:30 pm and is held in NYS’s Parents’ Corner. The fee is $25 per person or $35 per couple. Also, if you would like to host a 5-week group at your home, a staff member would be happy to arrange this with you. This is a great way for neighbors to get to know one another. Interested in sharing parenting skills with others? NYS is holding a POSITIVE PARENTING DAY on Saturday, January 29, from 9 to 1. You do not need to have participated in the PP programs in order to attend. This course is free for Newtown residents and $50 for out-of-towners. For further information, please call the office.

NEW MOTHERS’ GROUP – Will begin meeting on Friday, February 18 from 12:30 to 1:30. For further information, please call the NYS office.

ENTERTAINMENT books are about to become history! Just 2 books left! If you would like to purchase one, please call the NYS office.

FATHERS’ NIGHT – Next evening for Dads will be Monday, February 28 beginning at 7:30 pm.

Youth Services After School

Thank you to all those who signed up for the various after-school programs. Your overwhelming response filled the courses! Please look for new programs in the Spring.

Youth Group Meetings:

The High School Youth advisory Board (HS YAB) will meet on Monday, January 31, at 6:30 pm.

NYCAAP will continue to meet alternate Monday and Tuesday evenings. The next meeting will be Monday, January 24 at 5:30 pm.

The Middle School Youth Advisory Board (MS YAB) will next meet on Wednesday, February 2 in the MS Teachers’ Lunch Room. The meeting will run from 3:45 to 4:45.

In an effort to allow more students to attend YAB we will vary our meeting days and times. Some will be “Breakfast Meetings” at 8 AM and others will meet on Tuesday or Wednesday at 3:45.
