CAPE COD GLASS CLUB TO OBSERVE GLASSMAKING AT FRITZ GLASS MAY 1

ak/lsb set 4/12 #696008

DENNISPORT, MASS. — On May 1 the Cape Cod Glass Club will meet to observe glassmaking at Fritz Glass, the furnace and gallery of glass artist Fritz Lauenstein. Preceding Lauenstein’s demonstration, the club will enjoy lunch at nearby Clancy’s Restaurant, 8 Upper County Road, at noon.

Lauenstein is a well-spoken conversationalist who blends classic and contemporary glassmaking techniques to produce bright, multicolored marbles, ornaments, vases, hat salts and other delightful objects. He began blowing glass at Gould Academy in Bethel, Maine, in 1974. He then studied his craft at Goddard College in Vermont and Massachusetts College of Art in Boston. He worked for four years with glassmaker Jim Holmes in Chatham, Mass., before opening his own Fritz Glass.

The Cape Cod Glass Club, founded in the year 2000, is a not-for-profit chapter of the National American Glass Club, dedicated to the study and appreciation of glass regardless of the type or period, with emphasis on American glass.

The Cape Cod chapter meets monthly from October to December, and from March to June. Activities include formal lectures, informal study sessions, and visits to museums and working glassmakers. The club welcomes new members.

For information, Dorothy Schatz, 508-428-2141 or Betsy Hewlett, 508-362-6875.
