Asleep At Wheel

At about 8:23 am on November 22, motorist Monsour Michael, 65, of Danbury, who was driving a 2016 Jeep Cherokee SUV on westbound Interstate 84, east of Exit 11, fell asleep at the wheel and then struck some guardcabling on the median, state police said.

There were no injuries. State police said they warned Michael for failure to maintain the proper lane.

Toyota vs Honda

State police said that at about 4:51 pm on November 22, motorist Elvis Teaca, 32, of Danbury, who was driving a 2009 Honda Accord eastward on Interstate 84, near the Exit 9 interchange, stopped for traffic conditions and was then struck from behind by motorist Tasheem Heath, 35, of Danbury, who was driving a 2011 Toyota Corolla.

There were no injuries, State police report they issued Heath a written warning for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart and for a driver's license violation.

Criminal Trespassing

Police report they received a complaint about 12:25 pm on November 23 informing them of a problem at an address on Church Hill Road in Sandy Hook Center, so they responded to investigate.

Police said they charged Christopher Szczesiul, 24, of Woodbury, with first-degree criminal trespassing. Police said that Szczesiul had previously been warned not to enter the premises, but did so, resulting in the arrest. Police released Szczesiul on a written promise to appear in state Superior Court in Danbury on November 30 for arraignment on the charge.

Nissan Strikes Jeep

At about 2:19 pm on November 23, motorist Thomas Barber, 19, of New Canaan, who was driving a 2010 Jeep Liberty SUV eastward on Interstate 84, near Exit 11, stopped for stop-and-go traffic conditions and was then struck from behind by motorist Edward Naylor, 51, of Southbury, who was driving a 2003 Nissan Maxima sedan, according to state police.

Barber and a Jeep passenger, plus Naylor, all received minor injuries, state police said. Enforcement information was not available.

Interstate Crash

State police said that at about 4:12 pm on November 23, motorist Caitlin Santos, 30, of Reading, Mass., who was driving a 2008 Dodge Caliber hatchback westward on Interstate 84 about 500 feet west of Exit 9, was slowing for traffic conditions and was then struck from behind by motorist Leaon Hines-Vanterpool Gordon, 22, of Brookfield, who was driving a 2011 Ford Taurus sedan.

There were no injuries. Hines-Vanterpool Gordon received an infraction for following too closely, state police said.

Key Rock Road Accident

Police report that at about 5 pm on November 23, motorist Stacy Slosson, 64, of Fairfield, who was driving a 2013 Buick Verano sedan northward on Key Rock Road, stopped at a stop sign at that road's intersection with Sugar Street, after which the Buick was struck from behind by a northbound 2003 Ford Explorer SUV driven by Alexander Lapa, 27, of Weston.

There were no injuries. Police report they issued Lapa an infraction for following too closely and for failure to carry an automotive insurance identification card.

BMW Hits Guardrail

Motorist Marquel King, 20, of Naugatuck, was driving a 2007 BMW 328-XI sedan westward on Interstate 84, about 500 feet east of Exit 9, at about 5 pm on November 23, when the auto went out of control, entered the median, and then struck a guardrail, state police said. There were no injuries. King received an infraction for failure to maintain the proper lane and for driving without a license, state police said.

Volkswagen vs Jeep

About 8 pm on November 24, motorist Peter Fragola, 62, of Bethel, who was driving a 2013 Volkswagen Jetta, backed out of a driveway on Haley Lane and then struck an unoccupied 2014 Jeep Compass SUV, which was parked on Haley Lane, police report. There were no injuries.

SUV vs SUV

Motorist Haley Taylor, 17, of Newtown, who was driving a 2010 Subaru Forester SUV southward on South Main Street at about 8:35 am on November 26, stopped near the driveway at 151 South Main Street, after which a southbound 2015 Jeep Cherokee SUV driven by Michelle Tarsi, 35, of Bethel stopped behind the Subaru, police said.

A southbound 2007 Jeep Wrangler SUV driven by David Earle, 34, of Southbury then struck the rear end of the Cherokee, pushing the Cherokee into the rear end of the Forester, police report. There were no injuries. Police said they verbally warned Earle for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.

Sandy Hook Collision

Police report a two-vehicle accident that occurred on eastbound Berkshire Road, near its intersection with Fir Tree Lane, about 12:30 pm on November 26.

Motorist Allen Stephen, 31, of Danbury, who was driving a 2015 Honda Civic, stopped for traffic conditions and was then struck from behind by motorist Janneth Achury, 35, of Hamden, who was driving a 2014 BMW auto, police report.

There were no injuries. Achury received an infraction for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart, police said.

DUI Charge

Police said that while on patrol at about 3:30 pm on November 26, they spotted Felix Benitez, 58, of Bethel urinating alongside the roadway, near the intersection of Riverside Road and Timber Mill Road, after which Benitez entered his vehicle as police were turning around to investigate.

Police said they charged Benitez with driving under the influence and with possession of less than one-half ounce of marijuana. Benitez was released on $250 bail for a December 8 court appearance, police report.

Honda vs Tree

Motorist Karsen Miller, 17, of Sandy Hook was driving a 2003 Honda CR-V SUV eastward on Jeremiah Road and then attempted to turn left onto Bennetts Bridge Road, when the SUV traveled off the left side of the roadway and struck a tree at about 7 pm on November 26, according to police.

There were no injuries. Police said they issued Miller an infraction for making a restricted turn.

Warrant

After learning that police held a warrant for his arrest, Leonardo Diaz, 54, of Stratford went to the police station on the afternoon of November 30 and was charged with evading responsibility and with failure to drive a reasonable distance apart, police said.

Police said the charges against Diaz stem from their investigation into an accident on Boggs Hill Road at its intersection with Hattertown Road on August 27, in which the vehicle driven by Diaz struck another vehicle from behind, after which Diaz left the accident scene.

After processing, police released Diaz on $5,000 bail for a December 14 appearance in state Superior Court in Danbury.
