Hawley International Night Draws A Crowd

Hawley Elementary School PTA held an International Night at Reed Intermediate School on February 6 that invited members of school families to eat traditional food of Italy, China, and Mexico. Craft tables were set up for the event that had students focus on making crafts from Australia, Africa, Italy, China, Ireland, and Brazil. Each participating student was given a “passport,” which was stamped as the student completed each craft.

Natalie Kaiser supplied a collection of spices for the children to taste, smell, touch, and learn about for the event. Francine Wheeler provided entertainment by singing songs from various cultures. Teachers helped out at the craft tables, and the entire event was considered “green,” which meant all traditional paper/plastic products were replaced by items made from sugar cane or corn. Third grade students at Hawley Elementary School also made heritage dolls for decorations that were hung for the evening.
