Track and Running Opportunities For All Ages
Newtown Parks and Recreation offers Middle/Intermediate School Track, Elementary School Track and Adult Running as follows (register through Newtown Parks and Recreation at 270-4340/ newtown-ct.gov, or email hawksrun14@yahoo.com for information):
Elementary Program
Beginning March 23, boys and girls in grades 3 and 4 may practice one of three nights (Monday, Wednesday or Thursday). This is an introduction to track and field and will include fun and games time too. Practices are from 5:15 to 6:45 pm. Cost is $50 per child.
Middle School / Intermediate Program
Newtownâs Middle/Intermediate School Track Programâs spring session will begin March 23.Practices will be offered Monday, Wednesday and Thursday nights. Athletes are requested to attend two practices a week or one practice and a meet once meets begin. Practices take place from 5:15 to 6:45 pm at the track at Newtown High School where two home meets will be held. Events include hurdles, long and high jump, shot put and discus throws and running (ranging from the 100-meter dash to the 1600-meter run, as well as relay races). Cost is $110 per child. Uniforms may be purchased separately at practices.
Adult Running Program
Are you an adult who has never run or tried to run and donât know where to start? Worried that you are out of shape or just find it hard to motivate yourself on your own? This program is designed for adults who just want to get into shape or those who would like to run in races throughout the area. Runners at all levels of fitness are welcome. The program covers proper stretching and warm up, proper shoes to wear, and knowing when a pain is more than just unused muscles awakening.
Two sessions are offered: Tuesday from 9-10 am, March 24 through June 2 and Thursday from 7-8 pm, March 26 through June 4. Cost is $75 per adult for each session.
