St Rose Of Lima School Celebrates World Peace
World Peace was the theme as St Rose of Lima School celebrated International Week from March 16 through 20.
After weeks of preparation, students, teachers and parent volunteers came together for events that helped the students explore the cultural diversity of countries around the globe. The week began with a flag ceremony and a prayer service for peace throughout the world.
On Tuesday, students held an international concert. Each class represented a different country and performed traditional songs. Upper grade students presented projects highlighting musicians who had made significant contributions to world music.
On Wednesday, both as part of International Week and also to honor the life of St Patrick, students were treated to an Irish dance performance sponsored by Gray Studio. The student performers explained the history of their dances, along with some history of Ireland. Students were encouraged to wear the color green and contribute $1 to a mission drive benefiting Heifer International and Catholic Charities.
Students sampled foods from their chosen countries in their classrooms on Thursday, then convened in the Gathering Hall to visit learning stations for various countries. Each student was given a âpassport,â which was stamped when they visited each countryâs station.
The week ended with a World Peace Mass on Friday.
