Preparing Spring Concert
Newtown Choral Society, under the direction of David Jurman and accompanied by Susan Anthony-Klein, will be presenting a program called âA Canadian Spring,â devoted to Canadian music, on Sunday, May 17, at 4 pm, at Christ the King Lutheran Church, 85 Mount Pleasant Road in Newtown.
Canadaâs music includes the countryâs tradition of folk music, and is embellished by the countryâs strong domestic and international contributions to popular music.
The choir will be singing Mr Jurmanâs arrangement of âCanadian Pacific,â a song first introduced by the country singer Hank Snow in the 50s. Also on the program will be a modern choral interpretation of Antonin Dvorakâs New World Symphony, Canadian folk songs, and Ian Tysonâs iconic âFour Strong Winds.â Contemporary works by Allister MacGillivray, Susan Crowe and Stan Rogers will also be on the program.
Tickets $9, $7 for students and seniors.
