Day Camp For Budding Naturalists
Day Camp For Budding Naturalists
SOUTHBURY â The Audubon Center at Bent of the River, 185 Flat Hill Road, is offering its yearly nature-based youth camp experience for kids from fourth through eighth grade. The summer day camp program at the Bent encourages campers to discover the wonders of the natural world with professional Audubon educators.
Children will have opportunities to hike through the sanctuaryâs meadows and forests, explore the wonders of the Pomperaug River and use a variety of field science tools and techniques to learn more about the plants and animals. Also offered are ecological games, art projects, writing and nature journaling.
Each week is designed around a different natural history theme and will feature a guest speaker. From July 13 through July 17, Tracks and Traces will bring campers a week of backwoods exploration and outdoor skill building.
From July 20 through July 24, the Going Buggy program is a mini bio-blitz where campers will explore the sanctuaryâs many habitats.
From July 27 through July 31, Wet and Wild! program offers campers to spend a week investigating the Bentâs river, creeks, and pools focusing on an in-depth look at the aquatic ecosystems around the Bent.
The final week of the program, August 3-7, will offer âThe Art of Natureâ program, which will continue to explore the center through nature drawing, painting, journaling, and art games.
Camp runs from 8:30 am to 2 pm Monday through Friday. Tuition is $285 per child, or $250 for Audubon Center members. Call 264-5098 for more information.
