Newtown Food Bank Needs Help

The Newtown Food Bank at Social Services is in desperate need of food.

In response to this need, C.H. Booth Library is hosting a food drive through the holidays. Most food is accepted, such as canned goods, cereal, and pasta; toiletries are also needed.

Canned vegetables are not needed at this time. A complete list of requested items can be viewed at the library website, CHBoothLibrary.org.

According to Social Services Director Ann Piccini, donations are drastically down for this year and the need is increasing.

The Newtown Food Bank is located at 3 Main Street, behind the police station. Food can be donated there Monday through Friday between 8 am and 4:30 pm, or at the library. Boxes have been set up on the first and second floors. The library is open 9:30 am to 8 pm Monday through Thursday, 11 am to 5 pm on Friday, 9:30 am to 5 pm on Saturday, and noon to 5 pm on Sunday.

Big Y coins and checks are also accepted. Make checks payable to Newtown Social Services Gift Fund and mail to Newtown Social Services, 3 Main Street, Newtown CT 06470.
