NBLA Announces Meeting Speakers, Horses Around

The Newtown Bridle Lands Association will be having an open meeting , Tuesday, June 21, at 7:30 pm, in the lower level of the Newtown Meeting House across from the flag pole on Main Street.

Kara Kirchherr, Wholesale Feed Division and equine nutrition specialist from Poulin Grain of Vermont, will speak about equine nutrition, balancing the equine diet, and Poulin products. Kirchherr joined Poulin Grain in 2007 and brings with her a great passion for horses and their owners. Kirchherr received her bachelor of arts in neuroscience and behavior from Mount Holyoke College and subsequently pursued her MBA at American International College.  Kirchherr’s professional career has always been involved within the equine industry and has included working for equestrian retailers and manufacturing companies, all with a focus on sales, marketing, and quality control. She is an active member of the United States Equestrian Federation, United States Hunter Jumper Association, United States Dressage Federation, New England Dressage Association, and New England Horseman’s Council, along with various breeds and sport horse registries. One of NBLA’s Board of Directors, Stephanie Lennon, will discuss America’s Choice Premium Bedding and its ability to cut costs and cleanup time 50 percent. This new type of bedding provides the same benefits as pellets, but do not require wetting down and is dust free, which is healthier for horses.

This event is free to NBLA members, but a donation is requested from nonmembers. Refreshments will be served afterwards. RSVPs at newtownhorses@charter.net or 203-791-4853 are appreciated.

Horsing Around

On June 18, NBLA members will “horse around” a little at the Annual Members Fun Day. Equine games of skill, including “horse soccer,” a ribbon ride, water ride, and the obstacle course are only a few of the activities in which members may participate. Those not interested in speed competition will have a chance to compete at walk/trot-jog. After all the games, members will open their picnic lunches on the Bethel Extension grounds and toast each other’s successes in sparkling cider. If you join NBLA by June 15 you, too, can horse around on Fun Day.
