Ann C. (Barretto) Poeltl, 76, of Newtown, died unexpectedly November 30, at Danbury Hospital. Mrs Poeltl was the loving wife of Paul W. Poeltl. She was born in Derby, May 14, 1935, a daughter of Edith and Louis Barretto.
She grew up in Derby and was a graduate of St Maryâs Parochial School and St Maryâs High School in New Haven.
The Poeltls were residents of Fairfield for 40 years before moving to Newtown in 2001 to be closer to some of their children and grandchildren.
Mrs Poeltlâs number one priority was her family. For many years she would have the entire family over for dinner on Thanksgiving, Christmas, Easter, and on the Fourth of July for a cookout. She never forgot a birthday or a graduation.
For 20 years, Mrs Poeltl worked for MBI in Norwalk, starting as a clerk. She took five courses at Fairfield University and worked her way up to be financial supervisor.
She had many interests, including golf, bowling, travel and an occasional trip to the casino. She was a past president of the Fairfield Ladies Golf Club.
The Poeltls traveled extensively throughout the United States, including Alaska and Hawaii, and throughout Europe. Her favorite trips were Caribbean cruises.
She was a communicant of St Rose of Lima Parish in Newtown.
In addition to her husband of 54 years, she is survived by her children, Mark Poeltl, and his wife Amy, and John Poeltl, all of Newtown, Joan Allison of Oxford, Jean Knapp, and her husband Randy, of Gross Ile, Mich., Susan Gibbs, and her husband Matt, of Shelton, and Kurt Poeltl of Hooksett, N.H. She will be sadly missed by her 14 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated December 5. Interment was in St Rose Cemetery.
