Newtown High Gymnasts Compete In Southbury
Newtown High Schoolâs gymnastics team competed against three schools in a meet at Pomperaug High in Southbury on Tuesday. The meet was won by Nonnewaug with 140.300 points, Pomperaug was second with 139.300, Oxford placed third with a 129.650, and Newtown came in fourth with 128.000.
The Nighthawks were led by Leah Wallace who earned fifth-place in the all-around with a cumulative score of 35.500. Wallace earned a 9.200 on the vault event, scored an 8.4 on the uneven bars, an 8.8 on the balance beam, and a 9.1 on the floor exercise.
Newtownâs Kaitlyn Tumney had an 8.5 on vault and an 8.6 on floor. Teammate Anna Jannott earned a 7.5 on the beam, and Jennifer Indelicato and Meagan Foy both had an 8.0 on the vault. Indelicato also registered a 7.650 on the beam and Foy scored an 8.5 on the beam.
The Nighthawks were scheduled to compete in the South-West Conference championships in New Milford on Thursday (after The Bee went to press).
