Head O’ Meadow Students Create Art To Auction

By Eliza Hallabeck

Students gathered around Parent Teacher Association (PTA) Project Coordinator Donna Ball on Tuesday, February 28, in Head O’ Meadow art room.

Ms Ball explained to the students that the artwork they were about to create would help the school raise money during the upcoming PTA fundraiser on March 24, and by transferring designs onto tin, the students would also be joining their individual efforts with those of the entire Head O’ Meadow student body.

Each student in the school will have added to the piece before it is sold during the Head O’ Meadow PTA Spring Into Auction event. Ms Ball also demonstrated how the students would trace a design they created on a piece of tin that would later be attached to barn wood, and eventually hung together with tins from each student at Head O’ Meadow.

Ms Ball told the students their works would help to create “one big beautiful work of art.”

Once each student has had a chance to contribute to the project, Ms Ball said all of the tins will be displayed together at the school before it is sold at auction, so the students will have a chance to view the final project.

“The PTA uses the money to buy great things for your classroom,” Ms Ball told the third grade students around her.

“Helper Moms” were also available to help oversee the students work on their individual projects during the multiple-day effort.

Each student was also told to work their name into their design on Tuesday, so parents will be able to easily identify which student created which individual image.

“I like it,” said third grader Eric Vine before he started transferring his design to a piece of tin, “because you can use a lot of hard work and imagination.”

Near Eric, fellow third grader Gavin Craft said he thought the project was great, because it gave the students a chance to improve their drawing skills.

Across the room, Jennifer Lorenz also said she thought the project was fun, and she said it would look “really cool” when finished.

The PTA’s Spring Into Auction event is slated for Saturday, March 24, from 6:30 to 10:30 pm at the Rock Ridge Country Club; and the deadline to purchase tickets through the PTA is Friday, March 9.
