NVCC Spring Dance Performances Will

Coincide With World Dance Day

WATERBURY — This year’s spring performances by Naugatuck Valley Community College’s dance students will be part of World Dance Day, a day of coordinated events internationally that celebrate the art of dance.

Held annually since 1982, World Dance Day 2006 is Saturday, April 29. Created to attract wider public attention to the art of dance, its events may be special performances, open-door courses, public rehearsals, lectures, dance evenings, radio and TV programs, and even street shows.

The events are primarily organized by dance companies, amateur groups, schools, associations and other institutions active in dance. World Dance Day is sponsored by the International Dance Council, a nonprofit organization founded in 1973 as an official umbrella agency for all forms of dance around the world.

The NVCC student performances, “Our Stories, Our Legacies,” will take place Friday, April 28, and Saturday, April 29, at 8 pm, in NVCC’s Fine Arts Center, 750 Chase Parkway.

The concert will feature the NVCC Dance Ensemble and students studying choreographic principles at NVCC. In addition to presenting autobiographical works, the students will present three works from renowned 20th century choreographers Anna Sokolow and Donald McKayle, and works choreographed by NVCC dance faculty.

A $10 donation is requested. For information, contact Elena Rusnak at          Erusnak@nvcc.commnet.edu.
