Parent Programs
POSITIVE PARENTING workshops are held at NYS and may be hosted in your school, business, or home. We are presently setting up the fall schedule so now is the time to inquire.
There are currently two programs available. âPositive Parentingâ is geared for parents of preschool and elementary school children, and âWelcome to the Teen Zoneâ is for parents of middle and high school.
New to NYSâ Parenting Program this fall will be a course for parents of special need children.
To further reach out into the community, NYS staff members are contacting local businesses to set up programs for employees at their place of business. These sessions may be held during lunchtime or other convenient times during the work day.
Our Parenting Programs are a great way to meet people who may be dealing with many of the same issues. If you would like to host a Positive Parenting program in your home, school or business, please contact Roseanne Loring at 270-4335 for further information.
NYS Summer Programs
âLEARNING TO GROWâ â The Youth Garden is a work in progress. We are looking for middle and high school age youths to volunteer several hours a week. A varieties of flowers and vegetables are planted and need to be cared for. If you enjoy gardening or being outside please call the office for further information.
MENTORSHIP â Are you interested in becoming a certified mentor? NYS will work around your summer schedule. We welcome all high school students and adults who would like to give some of their time to help someone. One course has already been held and another is planned for early August.
âTHINGS I WISH I HAD KNOWN BEFORE I WENT TO COLLEGE!â â If you are a college-bound senior and have questions on just what college life is really like, join current college students for the remainder of this five-session program. Discussions will explore various aspects of college life and will be held on Wednesday nights beginning at 7 pm. Topics are as follows: July 26, âNutrition,â âThe Freshman 15â and âEating Disordersâ; and August 2, âFinancial Matters,â âTime Management,â âDiversityâ and âTransferring.â
College students will answer questions honestly and provide an insight into just what is myth and what is reality on todayâs campuses. In order for the students to gather as much information as possible, this workshop is for STUDENTS ONLY. There is no fee. Come to one or all of the workshops. Interested students please call to pre-register.
