Protect Our Water Resources
Protect Our Water Resources
To the Editor:
Before the Planning and Zoning Commission is a regulation for upzoning. Passage of this regulation will not only help protect our water resources for future generations, but it will also serve as one of the few vehicles that can actually slow down residential development that is changing our town so quickly. Moreover, passage will also help stabilize school populations, and prevent higher taxes. This can only help Newtown, and I am in full support of this regulation.
It is also a way to preserve open space, at no cost to the town. Consider what is going on around us. Whether itâs Newtownâs Fairfield Hills, or the State of Connecticut, or the Federal government, taxpayers are paying top dollar to preserve open space before developers build on it. It would be a shame if future taxpayers have to open their wallets to buy land for open space because we canât pass the regulations (that cost nothing) to limit development in the first place.
