*I donât get too much information from Colorado Brewery, but every now and then a show presents itself on my desk thatâs worth noticing. Coming up next week is one such show: ADIOS PANTALONES, on Wednesday, November 21. Kick off your Thanksgiving weekend with this funk band that has been ruling UConn/Storrs and winning Hartford Advocate Best Of/Grand Band Slam awards for three years running (Best Rock 1999, Readersâ Choice 2000, and Best Funk 2001). UConnâs newspaper The Daily Campus has also named Adios Pantalones Best Band for the last three years, and was also named the on-campus Best Party Band/Best Band in 1999 by UConn students.
Two of the members of this funk band â bass guitarist and vocalist Floyd Kellogg and drummer Jeff Metcalf â are both from Newtown, so this monthâs show in Danbury will be something of a homecoming. The have been together for four years (the band includes, in addition to Floyd and Jeff, sax player and vocalist Chip, trombone player and vocalist Drawz, guitarist John TG Leonard, and sax player, flutist and valist Jonny B), and the guys continue to celebrate the April release of the bandâs self-titled debut CD.
Colorado Brewery, which has a cavernous area for live music, is at 6 Delay Street in Danbury. Thatâs in the heart of the CityCenter district, across the street from the skating rink and diagonally across the street from Patriot Garage. For additional band information visit www.AdiosPantalones.com.
*The next meeting of CONNECTICUT SONGWRITERSâ ASSOCIATION at Acoustic Café, 2926 Fairfield Avenue in Bridgeport, will be Wednesday, November 21, at 8:30 pm. CSA is a singer-songwriterâs group that holds its monthly meetings at the Bridgeport venue; the group also meets weekly in smaller collectives to practice, share and help each other develop their music. The monthly meetings differ in that the event offers an open mic and showcase and the opportunity to meet other artists, network, develop your art, or just enjoy the performances of new, original music. Open mic begins the night from 8:30 to 9, and then three featured artists perform. CSA requests a $3 donation. The café can be contacted by calling 203-335-3655 (FOLK).
For anyone interested in learning more about the club or its members, the group will be holding a regular meeting at Sheraton Inn in Waterbury on Tuesday, November 13. The program begins at 7:15 and the guest speaker will be professional voice instructor Penny Nichols. Ms Nicholsâ program is called âSing Me Your Melody.â She is additionally the head of Summer Songs and a folk performer. Visit CSAâs Web page at www.CTSongs.com or call 860-945-1272 (1CSA) for details.
*This weekend in Woodbury, THE CHASE SCENE, TWO DAYS and STOPWATCH will be the featured bands for Woodbury Ski & Racquet Areaâs 4th Annual Skate/Ski/Snowboard/Music Jam. For detals on ticket prices and time of music, along with when different classes will be competing in the sporting events, contact the ski area at 203-263-2203.
In January the ski area will present its 30th Annual Rock & Reggae Party.
*RATT returns to the state later this month, this time sans original frontman Stephen Pearcy. Whatâs left of the band will be at The Webster Theater in Hartford on November 30. Next month, BEN FOLDS headlines on December 11, with Clem Snide opening.
Until next week, Iâll be seeing you⦠on the road.
