Weir Farm Program For Kids

WILTON –– The Weir Farm National Historic Site is offering a Summer Junior Ranger Program for students in the fourth and fifth grade.

The program will take place over three Saturdays –– July 13, 20, and 27 –– from 9:30 am to noon.

Junior rangers will work with the National Park Service (NPS) staff and volunteers to learn about the National Park Service, the duties of the park ranger, and the history of Weir Farm National Historic Site. Orientation will include a NPS exploration session, a tour of the site, and general history of the Weir Farm and its artistic ties. Later the junior ranger activities will explore such topics as stone walls, the natural side of the Weir Farm, and ranger responsibilities.

Participants will have an opportunity to live the Weir Farm experience and to earn an official junior ranger badge. The program is free but space is limited. For more information call Park Ranger Cliff Laube at 203-834-1896, extension 12.

The Weir Farm National Historic Site preserves the summer home and workplace of Julian Alden Weir (1852-1919), a leading figure in American art and the development of American Impressionism. The 18th Century farm has been used continuously by artists since 1992.
