Stop & Shop Launches 14th Annual Campaign Against Hunger
The Stop & Shop Supermarket Company has kicked off its 14th annual Food for Friends program to raise more than $1 million for 300-plus local hunger relief organizations throughout the Northeast.
As part of Stop & Shopâs Food for Friends campaign, which began November 2, the Newtown Super Stop & Shop store will be raising funds for FAITH Food Pantry, Monroe Friendship Fund, and Connecticut Food Bank and Food Share. The store will host fundraising events such as hot dog and bake sales and will sell $1 paper turkeys at checkout. The turkeys can be personalized by each customer and will be displayed throughout the store.
One hundred percent of the funds raised in the Newtown Super Stop & Shop, in Sand Hill Plaza on Main Street South, will be donated to the local hunger relief organizations. Stop & Shop will match a portion of the funds.
âThis is a critical year for fundraising; many families have to decide whether their money will go towards food or heat, because they canât afford both,â stated Barry Berman, executive vice president of procurement and marketing for Stop & Shop.
âIn the United States, five million people live at or below the poverty level, and nearly a third of them are children. Providing meals to those who need help is a cause that directly impacts each community in which we operate and gives each store the opportunity to form a lasting partnership with a local food panty and make a difference,â he said.
The Stop & Shop Supermarket Company, based in Quincy, Mass., employs more than 56,000 associates and operates 340 stores throughout Massachusetts, Connecticut, Rhode Island, New Hampshire, New York, and New Jersey.
