Sherman Art Show Returns This Month
SHERMAN â The 40th Annual Sherman Art Show will be conducted the weekend of Friday, August 19, to Sunday, August 21, at The Sherman School. Hours will be 10 am to 5 pm each day, and admission is free.
The diverse exhibit will feature 80 artists showing their work. Merrill Frenchâs work captures the intricacies of the sculptures on a brownstone façade, the character of an English country house, or the sweeping panorama of open land, with its undulating marshes and foliage.
Mel Crawfordâs versatility ranges from his depiction of arctic scenes to New England country life.
Jane Carlson paints villages bathed in the light of the Mediterranean sun or the Florida beach.
Bill Rice will show carved wood birds, one of his specialties, along with some of his oil canvases.
Debra Shaffer will display her photo collages. J.A. Mottâs florals show an Oriental influence. Prize-winning painter Raine Crawfordâs work evokes tranquility, while Ruth Newquistâs work captures the hectic pace of busy street life.
Also participating this year are the impressionist painter Richard Derwitsch, and the representational painter Craig Johns, the watercolorist Charles Dransfield, artists from a Vermont colony known as the Putney Painters including art photographers Russell Degaeto and Arthur Von Plachecki,
Crafts are also featured and will cover a wide range of objects, both decorative and utilitarian including pottery, stained glass, woven wearables, jewelry, pressed flowers, basketry and ceramic sculptures.
There will be an estate sale including some antique art objects. Beneficiary for the full weekend is Sherman Higher Education Fund.
The Sherman School is at the junction of Routes 37 and 39.
