FAC Continuing 10th Anniversary Celebration With Selections From Town’s Art Collection

FAIRFIELD — “Selections from the Town of Fairfield Art Collection,” Fairfield Arts Council’s (FAC) newest exhibition, pays tribute to an exemplary town art collection and continues FAC’s year-long celebration of its tenth anniversary.

The exhibition opens Friday, June 16, and will run through August 25. An opening reception is planned for Saturday, July 15, from 5 to 7 pm.

Works of art selected present both Artist of the Year recipients, Josef Albers and Willem de Kooning, as well as other well-known artists including Ann Chernow, Jak Kovatch and Carol Manasevit many of whom were recipients of awards from Fairfield’s Festival of the Arts, a juried exhibition previously held annually.

Over the past six months FAC has, as a service to the town, secured interns from Fairfield University to inventory and catalogue works in the town collection noting locations and any conservation issues that have arisen over the years. FAC is in the process of cleaning and reframing several of these pieces with the intent to return them to their public locations at the town hall once the exhibit closes. Individual works of art were donated to the town over the years.

The council will continue its tenth anniversary celebration with an exhibition of works of art by Jane Sutherland (Artist of the Year, 1997), titled “New Drawings,” at Fairfield Arts Council from September 9 until October 21, and a 10th Anniversary Celebration Gala on September 16 at Fairfield University’s Quick Center.

Fairfield Arts Council is a not-for-profit organization established to foster cultural development and increase public support for the arts.

The FAC Gallery is at 70 Sanford Street. Gallery hours are 10 am to 4 pm Monday through Friday. For further information visit FairfieldArtsCouncil.org or call 203-319-1419.
