Kathleen J. Hartl, 70, wife of the late Werner Hartl of Massapequa, L.I., New York died unexpectedly May 28 at the home of her mother, Anna McMahon of Sandy Hook.

She was born in Newtown, a daughter of Anna (Wargo) and John McMahon.

Mrs Hartl was a graduate of Newtown High School, Class of 1950, and Springfield College, Springfield, Mass., Class of 1954. She was a longtime schoolteacher in the Massapequa school system.

In addition to her mother, Mrs Hartl is survived by two sons, Robert Hartl of Clifton Park, N.Y., and William Hartl of Scarborough, N.H.; a daughter, Margaret Krause of Phoenix, Ariz.; and two brothers, Robert McMahon of Omaha, Neb., and Brian McMahon of Phoenix, Ariz. She was predeceased by a brother, John McMahon, and a sister, Patricia O’Neill.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated June 1 in St Rose of Lima Church, Massapequa. Interment was in Long Island Cemetery, Farmingdale, N.Y.

Local arrangements were by the Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main Street, Newtown.
