Lions Club Offers Financial Support
For WHF Clean Water Projects
World Help Foundation (WHF) is a public charity based in Newtown whose focus is to increase access to safe water and proper sanitation facilities in places of extreme need overseas.
To achieve this vision, WHFâs mission is to place safe water equipment, and soon, on-site and small community sanitation facilities, in these places of need, together with the related hygiene messages. Since its founding in 1995, WHF has completed 128 projects in nine countries. In the past two months, WHF sent ten Disaster Relief Systems to the area of Indonesia, the point of origin of the horrific tsunami of 2004.
The organization also sent Community Water Distribution Systems to three villages in Ghana, West Africa. Planning for new projects is underway and WHF is looking forward to sharing the details with donors and cooperating sponsors.  Â
WHF is an agency that relies heavily upon volunteers and donations from residents, friends and clubs.
The Lions Club of Newtown recently presented a check to WHF to help fund safe water projects in underdeveloped countries. According to WHF, the bulk of Newtown Lions Club contribution will be applied to the cost of construction of a base tower and the purchase of a holding tank for a Community Water Distribution System to go into a village in eastern Ghana. This assistance will serve one of two villages where arsenic removal equipment is to be placed, dramatically improving health and preventing death among the villagers.Â
More contributions are needed to pay for the equipment, tower, and tank for the second village, so WHF urges others in the Newtown community to contribute as well to this worthy work.
Additional contributions to WHF can be made by sending checks to World Help Foundation, PO Box 500, Newtown, CT 06470. Information about the foundation is available online at WorldHelpFound.org.
