George A. Manizza

George A. Manizza, 75, of New Milford, husband of Helen (Gottardi) Manizza, died November 23  at New Milford Hospital.

He is survived by a daughter, Jane Ohayon of Newtown.

Born in Italy, January 28, 1925, he was a son of the late John and Maria (Serafini) Manizza. He came to the United States in 1928.

A veteran of World War II, he served in the US Army, participating in the campaigns of Normandy, Northern France, and the Rhineland. Mr Manizza was with the 9th division at Utah Beach in Normandy and participated in the Battle of the Bulge. He was the recipient of two Bronze Stars.

He had lived in Katonah, N.Y., from 1967 to 2000, when he moved to New Milford.

Mr Manizza had been employed by the New York Department of Sanitation from 1952 to 1972, after which he was a bus driver for the Katonah-Lewisboro School District from 1972 to 1976. He later worked at the maintenance department at Reader’s Digest.

Mr Manizza had many hobbies, which included building rock walls, tending to his garden, gourmet cooking, painting, and photography. His true passion in life focused on the special moments he spent with his family.

Besides his wife, he is survived by another daughter, Kathy Leier of New Milford; one sister, Diane Fuco of Rome, N.Y.; and two grandchildren.

Funeral services were held on November 27 in the Lillis Funeral Home, 58 Bridge Street, New Milford. Interment was in St Francis Cemetery, New Milford.
