Fall Softball Signups

Registration is underway for Newtown Babe Ruth Fall Softball at www.newtownsoftball.org. Teams will be fielded at the U10 through U16 levels; birth years 1998 and up. If you are interested in coaching please indicate on the registration form online. 

Run For A Cure

The seventh annual Run For A Cure 3-miler will be held on Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, November 22, at 9:30 am. The race will be held to raise money for the New Milford New York-Presbyterian Hospital Cancer Center and the Relay For Life of the American Cancer Society. There will be a $10 entry fee that can be paid that day between 7:30 and 9:15 am at the Roxbury Congregational Church on Route 317. The top overall male and female finisher will each receive a prize. There also will be a shorter children’s race that day at 9 am, which will have no entry fee. The races are sponsored by the Roxbury Recreation Commission, the Roxbury Road Race Series and the church. Walkers are encouraged and they will head out at 9:15 am, 15 minutes before the main races starts. Refreshments will be provided. Wicked Softball

The Connecticut Wicked 12-and-under travel fastpitch softball team will be holding private tryouts for the 2008 spring/summer season. The team will be formed in September and begin training immediately. To arrange for a private tryout, email coachK@thewickedsoftball.com

Veillette Benefit Road Race

The second Bob Veillette 5K Road Race and Walk will be held on Sunday, September 16 to benefit a popular Waterbury journalist stricken by a stroke. More than 500 people participated in last year’s race and walk, which raised more than $42,000. The event will be held rain or shine. The 3.1-mile road race begins at 1:30 pm. Walkers start at 1:40 pm. The course begins outside Waterbury City Hall on Grand Street, winds through downtown streets and finishes in front of Library Park near the Republican-American building. Registration begins at noon – but pre-registration is encouraged. Pre-registration is $20 for adults and $10 for children 12 and under. Race-day registration is $25 for adults, $15 for children 12 and under. The first 500 runners and walkers will receive t-shirts and goody bags.
