Amazing Community Support!
Amazing Community Support!
To the Editor:
I just wanted to take a minute to express my gratitude to our town merchants. I grew up here in Newtown and returned to raise my children here because I have always been proud of our town, the spirit of our community, and its beauty. My son Brandon Unger of Boy Scout Troop 270 is currently working on his Eagle Scout Project, and I have to say that I am completely blown away by the support he has gotten from our local businesses. Brandonâs project is planting a 6-by-40-foot border garden, blazing trails, and installing a geocache at The Nettleton Preserve, property owned by the Newtown Forest Association. This is landmark property that overlooks the views from Castle Hill.
My son has been soliciting donations from local merchants of plants, mulch, and materials needed to plant the garden, mark the trails as well as building two footbridges to cross wetland areas. The reception he has received as he shows up in full Class A uniform and explains that his project is benefiting the Newtown Forest Association and our community is amazing. Planters Choice, Newtown Hardware, Newtown Pizza Palace, Caraluzziâs Market, Golden Landscape, Interstate and Lakeland Lumber, Maple Row Growers, Costco, Big Y, Home Depot, and Hollandia Nursery have all donated with no hesitations and told my son they are happy to support Boy Scouts, the Newtown Forest Association, and our community. I am hoping residents of Newtown will read this and bring their business to the businesses that give back. It is so nice to live in a town that supports each other!
Sincerely,
Adele Gianni Unger
