BUCKHANNON, W.VA. (AP) — A $7.2 million performing arts center at West Virginia Wesleyan College is on schedule to open by the fall of 2009.

College spokesman Bob Skinner says the Virginia Thomas Law Center for the Performing Arts should be under roof by the end of March, with completion scheduled for about 18 months later.

The center will include a 400-seat theater, classrooms, reception areas, shop and set development areas, as well as offices.

Productions are now staged at Atkinson Auditorium, which was designed in the early 1900s for lectures and chapel services.

Officials say the auditorium lacks space for technical instruction and scene construction, among other things.

They hope the new center will attract new students and be used as a community resource.
