A Great Injustice
A Great Injustice
To the Editor
It amazes me how Carolee Mason was accused by some nameless person and fired by an unsuspecting first selectmen when there were apparently no complaints against her by the people being served in Newtown. As a matter of fact, her very clear and vocal support came from the people she actually served â the people of Newtown.
If there were inconsistencies within her recordkeeping or the application of a minor law, there would be a reason to correct these matters by helpful administrative action long before now. Perhaps someone could have suggested a correction or called Ms Masonâs attention to the matter. How is it that Ms Mason has held the post for three years and no one apparently noticed these violations until she went away on vacation?
The investigation, conducted when she was gone, could have been helpful, but instead appears to be the kind of a âpolice stateâ action worthy only of a banana republic, not the Town of Newtown, Connecticut.
It appears to me that reinstatement, if she will accept it, is the only logical course of action for the Town of Newtown. An investigation as to why this popular and efficient animal control officer was accused in the first place might reveal the motivation and thinking behind her dismissal.
In summary, I feel a great injustice has been done to this woman. She has the support of the animals owners of Newtown and the endorsement of a well-respected veterinarian.
This is a clear case where the people of Newtown should come first.
