Horse Guard Holds Benefit Ride
Horse Guard Holds Benefit Ride
Troopers of the Second Company Governorâs Horse Guard (2GHG) are hosting a benefit trail ride for Connecticut Childrenâs Medical Center on the grounds of its Fairfield Hills headquarters on Sunday, November 1, beginning at 9 am. This event is open to horse owners everywhere. There are trails along fields and through wooded areas and there is a stream crossing.
Riders will complete the 8-mile trail ride at their leisure. Riders are asked to fill out a pledge sheet to raise funds. All proceeds go directly to Connecticut Childrenâs Medical Center. Riders under the age of 18 must have a Horse Guard release form signed by parent or guardian. All riders are asked to wear safety helmets and they must show proof of current Coggins and Rabies vaccinations for each horse.
Riders will be able to park trailers on 2GHG property and 2GHG Troopers will monitor the street crossings. This is a unique chance to have access to this beautiful and well-maintained trail system, and to contribute to a worthy cause.
For 201 years, 2GHG has been serving the citizenry of Connecticut and is one of the oldest Cavalry Units in continuous service in the United States. Horse Guard Troopers participate in ceremonial events including parades, funeral honor squads, gubernatorial inaugurals, presidential inaugural parades and other events at the order of either the Governor or the Adjutant General. Members are dedicated to preserving the history of the cavalry in the State of Connecticut.
A 100-percent volunteer, non-profit organization, the 2GHG also runs a therapeutic riding program for residents of Southbury Training School, and also a small lesson program for disabled individuals.
Registration forms for the ride may be picked up at the 2GHG headquarters, or may be ordered by mail.
