Children’s Programs

Puppet Show: The Waldorf School will present the Three Billy Goats Gruff on Saturday, February 26 at 10:30 am in the main meeting room. The 30-minute program is recommended for ages 3-7. The program is free, but seating is limited to 75. Tickets will be available at the door at 10 am.

Lost and Found: The children’s department has a large box filled with treasures that have been left behind, including some nice winter jackets. If you think any of these items may belong to you, please come and look through our lost and found box.  

Adult Programs

Donations are currently being accepted for the Labor Day Book Sale. Please leave your books on the cart near the Children’s Department. Your contributions are greatly appreciated.

Bob Brand will be holding an Intermediate Internet class on Saturday, February 19, from 10 am to noon. There is a $10 fee for this class. Please register at the circulation desk or by calling the library at 426-4533.

The winter film series continues on February 25 with A River Runs Through It. This beautiful movie is directed by Robert Redford and stars Brad Pitt. It is a lovely adaptation of Norman MacClean’s novella of the same name. Movies begin at 12:30 pm in the new meeting room and are always free.

On Sunday, February 27 at 2 pm, Fred Comstock will be returning to the library to talk about bluebirds. Mr Comstock, an author and naturalist, has banded over 6,000 bluebirds and will speak on what we can do to help improve their survival rate. Come learn how to attract them to your yard, and how to keep them coming back year after year. After the program Mr Comstock will be signing his book, Bluebirds: The How to Book. He will also have bluebird house kits available for sale, a fun and easy family project, especially for those of you anxious for the return of Spring. This program is free and refreshments will be served.

 Good news for those of you who missed the demonstration of painting on silk back in January. Paula Moliver has agreed to return to the library on Monday, February 28 at 10 am for an encore performance. Come try your hand at this new and exciting medium. Please sign up at the circulation desk.

 McLaughlin Vineyards will be presenting an exciting new program beginning on Tuesday, February 29 called “Food and Wine, Cooking and Pairing,” to be held in the meeting room of the library. The class will be set up like a dinner with attendees sampling four courses and the wines with which they have been paired. Brenda Hrotesk, chef of Vineyard Food Co., and Morgen McLaughlin of McLaughlin Vineyards, will demonstrate the preparation of the featured course as well as speak on the food, wine, entertaining and other related topics. This is a four part series to be held on consecutive Tuesdays (February 29, March 7, March 14, and March 21) from 6 - 8 pm. Come to one or come to all four. Please register by calling the library at 426-4533 or McLaughlin Vineyards at 426-1533. The supply fee is $8 per class or $32 for the series.

The space race... civil rights... the Vietnam War... the Women’s movement... Revisit one of the most revolutionary and influential decades in American history – the 1960s! The Friends of the Library are sponsoring an exciting new book discussion series beginning Tuesday, March 7 at 7 pm in the Quiet Study room of the library. Liz Arneth and Gordon Williams, both former high school teachers, will be leading the discussion on four works, representative of some major 60s themes. Multiple copies of the books are available at the library. The titles are The Right Stuff by Tom Wolfe on March 7, The Autobiography of Malcom X on March 28, One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest by Ken Kesey on April 18, and The Things They Carried by Tim O’Brien on May 9. Please call the library if you’d like to join in this discussion. You need not read the entire book to attend. The film The Right Stuff will be shown at the library prior to March 7.
