Anxiety And Depression: A Discussion & Learning Series
Anxiety And Depression: A Discussion & Learning Series
DANBURY â The Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Danbury and Right to Flourish, a support group, are co-sponsoring a series for discussion and learning on anxiety and depression. The three-part series will be held once a month in UUCDâs Fellowship Hall, 24 Clapboard Ridge Road (Route 39).
Programs will be Wednesday evenings beginning at 7 pm. Individuals, family members, and professionals will find this series of interest. Attendees can attend all three programs or choose to attend any combination of the three.
The first guest speaker, on January 19, will be Carol Huckabee, PhD, of Danbury.
Dr Huckabee is a clinical psychologist with more than 30 years experience in inpatient and outpatient settings. She is a Fellow of the National Register of Health Care Providers in Psychology and has served and treated hundreds of individuals in addressing the challenges in anxiety and depression.
Through her presentation, Dr Huckabee will help the audience develop an understanding of the definitional, gender, and seasonal differences between anxiety and depression as an introduction to the series.
On February 16, Remi G. Kyek, MA, MFT, will assist the audience to discover self-help measures, including practical suggestions for being with the anxious/depressed person in activities.
Ms Kyek is vice president of operations for the Mental Health Association of Connecticut, Inc. She holds a bachelorâs degree in psychology and earned her masterâs degree in marriage and family therapy at Fairfield University. During her 17-year tenure with MHA, she has presented on topics of life transitions, stress management and maintaining wellness.
Jonathan Oler, PhD, will present the third program on March 16.
Dr Oler is an associate scientist of the Brain Imaging Laboratory at Health Emotions Research Institute in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Wisconsin Medical School. He studies the early risk factors that predispose people toward depression and anxiety. His research using functional magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and PET scans is aimed at understanding the neurobiologic and genetic mechanisms of anxious temperament, a childhood risk factor for the later development of anxiety disorders and depression in adulthood.
The Right to Flourish Support Group promotes a happy and content life for all and encourages the freedom to enjoy new and lifelong interests at any age. Physical health is often offered as a measure of happiness, but good mental health is equally important for dealing with stress on the road to contentment.
