Raymond D. Vecsey, 83, of Newtown, died June 2, at Birmingham Health Center in Derby, after a brave fight with cancer. He was born in Bridgeport, to Ella (Wilson) and Louis Vecsey.Â
He graduated Bassick High School in Bridgeport in 1946. Mr Vecsey served two years in the US Army as a radio technician, from 1951 to 1953. He was a self-employed plumber for many years, and retired as a supervisor for the Water Treatment Plant for the City of Bridgeport. He resided in Easton and Bridgeport for many years before moving to Newtown in 2003.
 âRay-Ray,â as he was known to his friends, was an avid fisherman. He had a wonderful sense of humor and always had plenty of jokes on hand. He was a member of the Port Five Naval Veterans Club in Bridgeport, and the VFW Post 308 in Newtown.
Survivors include his sons Raymond J. Vecsey of Seymour and Thomas L. Vecsey, and his wife Kathleen, of Monroe; his daughter Susan (Vecsey) Watson, and her husband Mark, of Trumbull; and their mother, June Vecsey. In addition, he is survived by his three loving grandchildren. Mr Vecsey was predeceased by his two brothers, Andrew and Norman, and halfâsiblings Flo Hultgren, Edward Stevenson, and Dorothy and Louis Vecsey.
A prayer service took place at the Lesko & Polke Funeral Home, 1209 Post Road, Fairfield Center, June 7. All other services will be held privately.
