Special Olympics Torch Run Returns

The Newtown leg of the 2011 Special Olympics Torch Run is scheduled for Friday, June 10.

Town police officers and staff members of Garner Correctional Institution are slated to participate in the event through which participants show their support for the Special Olympics.

The Newtown leg of the torch run will begin at about 11:15 am at the Dodgingtown Firehouse at 55 Dodgingtown Road (Route 302).

The runners will follow Route 302 (Sugar Street) eastward to Glover Avenue, from which they will turn left onto northbound Queen Street and then turn right onto eastbound Church Hill Road.

The Newtown leg of the torch run will end at the Blue Colony Diner, from which the torch will be transported to the state police’s Troop A Barracks at Exit 14 of Interstate 84 in Southbury.

The Connecticut Special Olympics Summer Games are being held June 10-12 in New Haven and Hamden.
