A Leader With Unselfish Perseverance

To the Editor:

I am writing to express my sincere gratitude to Newtown’s First Selectman Patricia Llodra for her timely response to my call to her regarding the status of power restoration on Curry Drive. Four days had passed without power on my street due to Hurricane Irene. The concern was a health issue. Curry Drive’s sewer system has “grinder pumps” which require electricity to run. When I contacted Ms Llodra’s office, she herself answered the phone. She treated me with the utmost respect and was most gracious. She promised me she would look into this matter and call me back. I was pleasantly surprised when she did call me not once, but twice. She addressed not only my initial concern but other concerns as well. I am proud to be living in Newtown with not only a competent town leader, but one who is trustworthy and responsible.

Ms Llodra remained calm throughout this long ordeal even when her own home remained without power. She was ever present “24/7” and networked to help and move “this problem forward” by “rolling up her sleeves” and getting much accomplished. She has proven that she values all Newtown residents.

It is refreshing and enlightening to have witnessed her unselfish perseverance, while conquering what seemed at times to be insurmountable obstacles.

Yet, throughout, she consistently displayed confidence and commitment to the town with the nightly “town update” calls. Ms Llodra has proven she has effective leadership qualities and “goes that extra mile.”

Thank you for being Newtown’s First Select “Lady.” In addition, I would like to thank Town Health Director Donna Culbert for her direction and assistance with our sewer “grinder pumps” concerns.

Sincerely

Edith and Ronald Poidomani
