Historical Society Will Debut Fall Antiques Show This Year
Historical Society Will Debut Fall Antiques Show This Year
Newtown Historical Society has announced the details of a new Fall Antiques Show. The event will take place on Sunday, September 28, from 10 am to 4 pm. The event â like the societyâs spring show â will be in the gymnasium of Edmond Town Hall, 45 Main Street (Route 25) in Newtown.
Due to the tremendous success of the societyâs Annual Antiques Shows held in March, many participating dealers asked to have another show in September. Newtownâs shows present diverse merchandise to a public that comes to buy, making it an all around popular antiques event.
The society is pleased to have been able to put together an outstanding group of antiques dealers for the September show. Some favorites will be returning and some exciting new dealers will be added.
Caroline Dirsa from Orange will be back with her display of early brass candlesticks and woodenware. Richard Visokay Antiques of Bethel will bring American furniture and accessories such as Staffordshire and pattern glass.
Shelley Smith from Bethlehem will have her booth filled with Steiff bears and animals, dollhouse miniatures, toys, and holiday items.
A new addition to the roster will be Linda Johnson from Woodbury who will be bringing original paint American country primitive items. Another Woodbury dealer who is a longstanding friend of the show is Joan Cole, who will display all fresh to the market antiques, including berry baskets, woodenware, ironstone, and country items.
Jim Murphy of J&J Antiques always brings quality early antiques for his attractive and popular booth. Bill Korzick of New Haven will show high country antiques, including many original paint pieces.
Margareta Brown will bring a new flavor to the show with her European antiques and Anne Marie Foran will have a beautiful booth of antique linens and jewelry.
From country to formal, furniture to miniatures, this new show promises one of the best selections of any area antiques show this fall.
Admission is $4 at the door. Proceeds of this fundraiser benefit Newtown Historical Societyâs public programs as well as preservation of the Matthew Curtiss House-Museum and its collections. The circa 1750 Curtiss House, located across the street from the antiques show, will be open during show hours for free tours by costumed guides.
The well attended, diverse show of quality antiques is easily accessible from major highways including I-95 (use Exit 27A), Merritt Parkway (Exit 49N), and Exits 9 or 10 when traveling on I-84. Call the society for further information, 426-5937
