HVCA Becomes Cultural Alliance Of Western Connecticut

DANBURY — The Housatonic Valley Cultural Alliance, or HVCA, a regional service organization working to ensure better access to arts and culture for its residents and visitors in the Housatonic Valley, has changed its name to the Cultural Alliance of Western Connecticut, or The Alliance, effective Monday, October 29.

HVCA’s board of directors voted earlier this year to change its name to the Cultural Alliance of Western Connecticut.

“HVCA has been in existence since 2005, working to coordinate, support, and promote arts, history, and culture in the greater Danbury area. Our highest priority is to promote our creative assets as a primary driver of the economy and as an enriching influence for communities and people. Our mission is the same — just more focused,” says Lisa Scails, executive director of The Alliance.

“The name Cultural Alliance of Western Connecticut is more aligned with the communities we serve. It quickly and accurately communicates who we are and what we do. It marks our growing capacity to better leverage the arts sector for quality of life and the economy,” she said.

“Everyone has more access to the arts through our web-based venue of nearly 3,000 regional events and a directory of hundreds of creative professionals that keeps growing,” she continued. “The business community has more access to the creative community to support jobs. We are a guide for and can help coordinate arts-based projects with a cross section of community and business leaders to augment economic development.

“Producers, presenters, and other stakeholders of art, history, and culture will have easier access and more opportunity to market events, network, share ideas and conversations,” she said.

The Alliance’s new website is www.artswesternct.org.
