Time To Celebrate Pysanka
Time To Celebrate Pysanka
The Ukrainian Cultural Organization of Greater Danbury will sponsor its annual Ukrainian Traditional Easter Egg Demonstration & Workshop on Sunday, March 20, from 2 to 4 pm.
Anyone interested in learning about the beautiful Ukrainian traditional symbolism and history of making Pysanka â an Easter egg decorated in the traditional Ukrainian style using the wax resist technique. This technique uses wax and dyes.
Instructor Olga Paproski will lecture and demonstrate. The workshop is open to all ages; families are welcome.
Supplies needed to make the Pysanka will be available for $5.
Participants will need to bring their own two or three whole white raw eggs, unblemished and at room temperature; a soft lead pencil; two regular candles; a short (about six inches tall) candle holder; and a paper towel.
Mrs Paproski will also talk about traditional Easter food that is served on Easter Sunday following church services. In addition to the Pysanka, one of those foods is Paska, which is made from yeasty sweet dough, raisins and eggs.
The workshop will be at the home of Mrs Paproski, on Hattertown Road in Newtown. Directions will be given with registration.
To register or for additional information contact Mrs Paproski at 426-4017 or Frances Ruppell at 748-5521.
