The Second Company Governor’s Horse Guard – in Niantic this week for maneuvers – is getting all geared up and ready for its annual Open House at its facility on Wildlife Road on the campus of Fairfield Hills.

The Open House – complete with calvary drills, pony rides, tours of the newly-renovated barns, displays, a working blacksmith at his forge, and performances of the company’s musical ride and precision exhibition by a team or horse and riders – will be held Sunday, August 27.

The University of Connecticut vaulting team is also expected to perform.

Last year, the Open House drew more than 1,200 people to the grounds and an equally large crowd is expected this year. Food and beverages will be available. Festivities are scheduled to begin at 9 am and continue on until 3 pm.

For further information, call 1-203-459-4275. The facility is accessible from Exit 11 off I-84 and from Route 25 (South Main Street).

The photos above show some of the things which have kept the Second Company_Governor’s Horse Guard a happening place.

At top left, Jennie Taylor, David Fuda, John_Luce, Lily Mills, Melnaie Messner and Jackie Sundblade graduated on July 30 and became new recruits for the Horse Guard.

At top middle, Major Charles Zarbo (ret.), left, parpes for the annual Open_House with assistance in the kitchen from Cpl. Tony Gregoras.

At top right, the progress in the recent renovation of the horse barn at the facility is seen . . . evidenced by 42 new stalls for the horses.
