Living Well With Diabetes
DANBURY ââ The Senior Physicians Group of Danbury Hospital, Danbury Hospitalâs Department of Medicine, and the Western Connecticut Endocrine and Diabetes Center will present âLiving Well With Diabetesâ on Wednesday, March 19, from 7 to 9 pm, at the auditorium in the hospitalâs John C. Creasy Center for Health Education, 24 Hospital Avenue.
The talk is the second annual lecture presented by The Stanley Saperstein, MD, and Eleanor L. Saperstein Diabetes Mellitus Complications Educational Endowment and will help people to understand the factors leading to diabetes and to prevent complications associated with the disease.
Attendees will learn about the factors that contribute to the onset of diabetes and diabetes complications and gain insight into related health issues about the heart, endothelium, kidneys, and blood pressure. Topics to be covered include Endothelium: The Key to Vascular Health, Obesity & Diabetes: Twin Epidemics; Type I & Type II Diabetes: The Same Disease or Different?; Insulin Resistance: Understanding Type II Diabetes; Diabetic Kidney Disease; Type II Diabetes & Obesity: Epidemic of the 21st Century; Diabetes Control & Complications; Heart Attacks & the Onset of Diabetes: How & How Soon Should We Intervene?; and Retinopathy: Preventing & Treating the Leading Cause of Blindness.
Speakers include Stanley Saperstein, MD, nephrology and hypertension, who will be the moderator; Howard Garfinkel, MD, chief of nephrology and hypertension; Ronald Raymond, MD, cardiology; Betty Klein, MD, ophthalmology; Robert Ruxin, MD, internal medicine; and Robert Savino, DO, chief, endocrinology and metabolism.
Those who attend will hear expert information and have their questions answered. There will be health displays and light refreshments.

The Diabetes Club of Danbury will present âNew Updates in Diabetesâ on Monday, March 17, at Danbury Hospital from 7:30 to 9 pm. Features speakers are Drs Saperstein, Ruxin and Savino. The support group meets in the fifth floor, South Building Conference Room. Light refreshments also will be served. Park free in the Blue Visitorsâ Parking Lot, Hospital Avenue entrance. The Diabetes Club of Danbury meets at Danbury Hospital on the third Monday of each month. No RSVP is required.
