Ms Silvestri is a former longtime resident of Newtown and of Florida. Her new volume of poetry deals with the muse, the source of inspiration for poetry and creativity.

Ms Silvestri’s first volume, In The Forest, was published in 1999 and dealt with nature, a common theme in much of her poetry.

“My muse tiptoes into my thoughts and whispers a zephyr of softness into my thoughts and widens the space of curiosity with a pin point of light through which I see life, and tempts me to want to play with my thoughts on paper. Often if I do not give into my muse and write down the whispers I will lose them forever,” writes Mrs Silvestri. “The journeys that my muse takes me are never boring.”

Ms Silvestri’s poetry and prose have appeared in many journals and anthologies. Her poetry has won many awards.

Ms Silvestri is a founder of Stratford Writers’ Circle and founder of Bridgeport Bards, a group of student writers who enjoy poetry and plays. She has also formed a book and sandwich club for students who enjoy reading and discussing books at Longfellow School.

Ms Silvestri was a 2002 winner of the Connecticut Post’s Woman of Substance Award for her work with children and literacy.

Ms Silvestri holds a bachelor of arts degree in English and in elementary education, a master of science degree in reading consultancy, and a sixth year degree (CAGS) in administration and supervision. She has spent her entire career as an educator with the Bridgeport public schools and is presently the assistant principal at Longfellow School.

She has dedicated her new volume of poetry to the person she calls her other muse, her son Jay Tiernan, Esquire.
