New England Scenes At Bethel Arts Junction

BETHEL — Bethel Arts Junction will present “New England Views,” an exhibit of paintings by Barbara Goodspeed, from June 9 through July 15. An opening reception will be held on June 10, from 6 to 8 pm, at the gallery, 5 Depot Place.

Gallery hours are Fridays and Saturdays, 1 to 8 pm, and Sundays, noon to 4 pm.

Ms Goodspeed began her art education as a young adult after moving to the country near Sherman, where she enrolled in the “Famous Artists” mail-order course.

Subsequently a passion for art that started as a hobby blossomed into a professional painting career.

Some 30 years later she continues to attend, and now also teaches, courses and workshops.

“I paint what I want to paint,” she says. “I don’t reproduce what I see, I take pieces of things and put them into compositions that I like” and the ultimate reward, she has said, “is that someone has seen something of yours and is left with a little memory.”

Appreciation of her nostalgic New England landscapes has spread well beyond her Sherman neighborhood, where she is known as “The Snow Queen” for her favorite winter scenes.

She is the recipient of numerous awards, is a member of many professional artists’ organizations, and is listed in Who’s Who In American Art, Who’s Who In America, and other publications.

For more information call the gallery at 798-2193.
