Fairfield Historical Society
Has Adopted A New Name
FAIRFIELD â The 103-year-old Fairfield Historical Society has taken a new identity. Well known in the greater Fairfield community for its library, museum and educational programs, the historical society will now be known as the Fairfield Museum and History Center.
âOur new identity reflects the expansion of the historical societyâs mission to be a dynamic community educational organization and visitor destination,â noted executive director Michael Jehle. âWe are dedicated to making history accessible and exciting to students of all ages, and the new Fairfield Museum and History Center will help us accomplish that.â
The new Fairfield Museum and History Center facility, now under construction behind Fairfieldâs Old Town Hall, will host a new education center, public forum and visitor destination that will celebrate southwestern Connecticutâs rich history through engaging exhibitions and innovative educational programs.
Support for the project has come from private individuals, state and federal granting agencies and regional businesses who share the vision to create a modern museum, library and education center worthy of this communityâs great legacy. More than $4.5 million has already been raised, putting the project within reach of its $6 million goal.
Founded in 1903, the Fairfield Historical Society is a privately supported, non-profit organization dedicated to preserving and interpreting this history of the Fairfield region. The societyâs historic properties, museum and engaging educational programs for all ages help the greater Fairfield community understand its future through a deeper appreciation of its past.
