Waldorf Student Artwork On Display

DANBURY — In celebration of the Housatonic Valley Waldorf School’s middle school building slated to open this fall, on Dodgingtown Road in Newtown, works by the middle school students are on display in the Danbury Public Library through the month of August.

The exhibit is located downstairs across from the audiovisual department; the library itself is at 170 Main Street, at the corner of West Street. The display features main lesson books, water color paintings, and handcrafted projects. The visual arts are infused into nearly every academic subject in the Waldorf curriculum.

For every major topic of study, each student designs, writes, and illustrates a “main lesson book.” This book provides a clear measure of progress and learning, obviating the need for examinations and grades. The goal of the school is to create well-rounded, capable students who love learning for its own sake.
