100 Hits!

Newtown High School softball team member Kate Bowen collected her 100th career high school base hit in a May 17 win over Masuk of Monroe at Treadwell Park. Bowen, a senior captain on the team, reached the milestone despite sitting out all of her junior year due to an ACL injury.

Bowen had her first hit, as a freshman, against Bunnell of Stratford on April 7, 2007. She ended this past regular season with 102 hits and carried a career batting average of .427 and career on base percentage of .473 into the playoffs this week.

In three seasons, Bowen has 10 home runs, eight triples, 14 doubles, has scored 70 runs, and knocked in 72 runs.
