Kathryn Taylor Pategas, 85, Newtown, wife of the late John Pategas, died of pneumonia January 29 at Danbury Hospital surrounded by close family. Born in New York City on January 24, 1924, she was the daughter of Evan and Susan Taylor.

She worked briefly at GE in Bridgeport soldering radio sets for the war effort in the early 1940s and married in 1943. She lived in Easton with her husband, raising four children.

In 2000 she moved into assisted living at Lockwood Lodge in Newtown. Her declining health precipitated her to move to Ashlar of Newtown in 2005 where she lived happily until her demise.

Mrs Pategas was a traditional postwar homemaker, involved with the Brownies, Girl Scouts, Cub Scouts, and Sport Hill Shufflers Square Dance group for many years. She believed strongly in lifelong education and attended numerous continuing ed classes at Fairfield University. In her late fifties she attended and graduated from the Katherine Gibbs School in Norwalk to facilitate her return to the workforce as an office clerk.

She is survived by her devoted children, Tina Welsh and her husband, Ted, of Newtown, Greg Pategas and his wife, Dianna, of Sandy Hook, John “Jack” Pategas and his wife, Patricia, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Stephen Pategas and his wife, Kristin, of Winter Park, Fla.; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and, six step-great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will take place in late spring at the Honan Funeral Home in Newtown.
