Changing The Tone Of The Town
Changing The Tone Of The Town
(The following letter to First Selectman Joe Borst has been received for publication.)
Dear Mr Borst:
I grew up in Newtown and moved back here almost six years ago. When I lived in Guilford, I worked closely with the Guilford/Branford Dog Warden Wendy Joyce. She was thrilled that anyone would want to help her work with and help to place any animals. When choosing a town to move to in order to be closer to my husbandâs work, it was Newtown or nothing. Newtown because it is a town that cares.
When I moved here, I hoped to be just as involved with the pound. I was not warmly invited to do so. Not until Carolee Mason became the dog warden. Not until then did I see someone who had a passion for her job and did it show! This woman worked tirelessly to help and save animals. She got them out of harmâs way and into the safety of the Newtown Dog Pound. Not only were they safe, but so were our children, pets and our trash cans. They were then treated professionally as well as unconditionally loved at that pound.
I have been there a few times since her removal. I have not only met locked doors with no one available, but was met with a stench that I never met before. Removing her is changing the tone of the town. If she is not reinstated, this will not be the type of town that I want to live in! Reconsider your decision. She is a vital part of what makes Newtown a great place to live!
Sincerely,
Liz Luzietti
