A Higher Purpose
A Higher Purpose
To the Editor:
When town officials became aware that there was a problem at the dog pound they began an internal investigation and subsequently discovered that Carolee Mason had kept poor records (town attorney Dorsey has actually accused her of falsifying records), had boarded too many cats, had lost rabies certificates, had aided wild animals which were a threat to public safety, had not monitored newspaper advertisements of stray dogs, and the list goes on.
If the purpose of this investigation was not only to ensure the safety of the townspeople, but to punish Mrs Mason for her mismanagement, then that purpose was fulfilled by firing her.
I would hope a higher purpose could be achieved by giving her the opportunity to change in the areas which need improvement. I think most people who are familiar with the pound agree that Carolee is a dedicated advocate for her animals. This should be a primary focus along with public safety.
Letâs not throw the baby out with the bath water. Nicer in Newtown? Letâs see.
