Brick Walk Fine Art Opens Window

On Zbigniew Grzyb’s Drawings

WEST HARTFORD — Brick Walk Fine Art’s next exhibition will feature never-before-seen oil pastel drawings by the Connecticut artist Zbigniew Grzyb.

Opening on January 15 and on view through February 20, these lyrical and sophisticated works relate to the large oil paintings and mixed media collages Mr Grzyb was creating in the early 1990s. They focus on an abstracted “leaf” motif that integrates a figural element into the drawings’ loosely geometric and almost windowlike grounds. There will be a reception for the artist on Friday, January 15, from 5 to 8 pm.

The exhibition has been curated by Michael Shortell, and is a benefit for Paper New England, a nonprofit organization that exhibits, collects, publishes and promotes drawings, prints, paintings, books and sculptures made on or of paper. With a focus on art that was made within the New England states, the center is a place where collectors, artists, students and the public at large can view exhibitions of contemporary, 19th and 20th Century works of art on paper.

Zbigniew Grzyb was born in Przemysl, Poland, and was educated at the Academy of Fine Art, Krakow. His work has been exhibited in Poland, Italy, Turkey and throughout New England. He was the recipient of a Pollock-Krasner Foundation Grant in 2001.

His works are represented in many important private and public collections in addition to the collection of the New Britain Museum of American Art, where his paintings were the subject of a solo exhibition in 2001.

Brick Walk Fine Art is at 322 Park Road in West Hartford. For more information, call 860-233-1730.
