Occupation: I currently wear many hats. I’m the resident caretaker at Holcombe Hill for the Newtown Forest Association — so I get to live in the most beautiful spot in town. I’m also an abstract artist. I’m doing the starving artist thing… My charity of choice is the Resiliency Center of Newtown, and I do a fair amount of work with the kids there. In March, the kids and I are creating handmade greeting cards for the Resiliency Center, for the April 10 fundraiser gala. Kids never let me down!

Family: My son, Lance, is 10 years old and lives in Florida. Fortunately, I get to see him every month.

Pets: No pets. My life has been transient for so long, it wouldn’t have been fair. I can hardly take care of myself sometimes, so bringing a pet into the picture wouldn’t be right.

How long have you lived in Newtown? I grew up in town, but as soon as I could, I went as far away as I could. Thirty years later, due to unforeseen circumstances, I was back. I don’t see now how I could ever leave. Whoever said “You can’t go home again” was so wrong.

What do you like to do in your free time? If you could explain to me what free time is, I could answer. I stay very busy.

What music do you find yourself listening to? Everything from Frank Sinatra to Frank Zappa. I like to listen to a lot of foreign voice music, even if I don’t know what they are saying. The voices are beautiful.

Do you have a favorite travel destination? I traveled the world for 30 years. I was a caddy for the LPGA Tour, and then I was involved in the rock ’n’ roll business, as a technician. I enjoyed all the cultures and all the exposure, all over. I never went to college, but I feel like I got a PhD in “The World,” from all my traveling.

What is the best thing about Newtown? I find it to be a very warm and inviting community. There are a lot of really good people who kind of keep an eye on each other, like we all need to do.

Who was the greatest influence in your life? Probably my son, Lance. He’s my hero. When he showed up in my life, I felt like my teacher had arrived: I learn so much from him. He has tempered me.

What was your favorite toy as a kid? The woods, the streams, the rocks, the fields; my friends and the neighborhood.

Do you have a guilty pleasure? I don’t participate in guilt. It’s like sitting in a rocking chair: something to do, but it doesn’t get you anywhere. But something I do to take time for myself is watching the sunsets up here. I don’t know why more people don’t join me!
