Youth Cross Country Championship Results

Led by the 24th-place finish of Annika Fagerholm, the Newtown girls’ middle school cross country team finished fourth in the field of 13 teams at the second annual WCC Cross Country Championship this past week.

Molly Begg was 28th, Laura Hornby 32nd, Hannah Schwartz 38th, Eliza Eggelston 39th, Kelly Coughlin 46th, and Amy Martinelli 52nd.

In the sub-varsity race 6th grader Madeline Meier was the first Newtown girl in 13th place, and teammate Megan Huwer placed 20th followed by Jessie Coughlin in 36th and Julia Dimartino in 39th.

In the boys’ race illness and injury plagued the team but some of the younger runners stepped up on race day. Vanya Donaher was 18th and Sean Kemsley 19th to earn all WCC team honors. Joey Whelan came in 48th, Jacon Steinebrey in 73rd, Will Roman was 81st, Reily Rising took 89th, and Peter Fagerholm 91st.

In the sub-varsity race, Ethan Burgs had a 54th place finish which was the sixth fastest Newtown boys’ time for the day. Josh Bent was 94th in that race.
